There is a news article that appeared on Google a short time ago which I won’t bother to show you that claimed that schizophrenic don’t get arthritis. That is false. I have foot, ankle, and developing knee arthritis. I didn’t have much pain until my plantar fascitis developed when I was nearly 40. I have heard of another deceased schizophrenic who told me he took morphine for his pain and I am asked about my pain level when I visit my pdoc. It may be true of the youth but when we get older it’s not necessarily true at all. That’s a myth I’d like to bust.
I have rheumatoid arthritis.
I’ve developed pain in my triceps (arm)
I’m wondering if it’s related to some form of arthritis.
I also wake up to some soreness in my other arm and legs.
I am going to see my family doctor soon.
@LED do you know how arthritis is diagnosed?
Which tests do they use?
I have autoimmune arthritis, so mine was a bunch of blood tests and imaging. I honestly don’t really remember much of it. I was having a LOT of testing done at that point for all sorts of stuff because they couldn’t figure out what all was wrong with me. Turns out it was like 10 different things.
I’m not sure about osteoarthritis, though. But I would imagine some sort of imaging at the very least to see how much damage has been done.
I’m 25 and I have osteoarthritis in my lower back.
This book i am reading called ‘the body keeps the score’ by a leading psychiatrist claims that there is a link between autoimmune disease and trauma. It is a great book, i can really recommend it.
It offers solutions with all the up to date methods to connect brain and body and thus alleviate symptoms caused by trauma, if perhaps that is what caused your autoimmune problems, as spoken by a psychiatrist with over 30 years practice.
What’s the book?
what an absurd claim. szs are still human beings like everyone else.
“The body keeps the score” by Bessel van der Kolk
Oh. You totally said that. Lol sorry. But thanks for the rec. I’ll check it out!
I have arthritis in my neck. It’s not too bad most of the time sometimes it kills me though

I am having trouble bringing it up but I showed you the source and title. I’ll try one last time and if it doesn’t work I’ll quit. You can find it by typing “schizophrenia news” on Google, clicking on “news” and then going to the title seen in the original copy. The quote that I mentioned is in the article.
http://wksu.org/news. The title is “Research Sheds Light On the Roots and Causes of Schizophrenia”.
I have Arthritis bad, it will totally shut me down in the next few years
Me too. Also osteoarthritis in my right knee. Painkillers and anti-inflammatory in opposes area.
Oh my aching hips and lower back!
The issue is not whether people with schizophrenia can get arthritis, obviously they can, but that they get it less frequently than people without schizophrenia .
It seems as if a lot of people here have arthritis of some form or another. I’m also a member of this club.
