Schizophrenia +?

I am wondering about the prognosis of those who have psychosis and ASD/Asperger’s/ a learning difficulty/dyspraxia etc .

@shutterbug is a very high functioning person with Asperger’s and schizophrenia ,but I do wonder whether he is an outlier .

Can you find an article on the matter?

https://www.theneurotypical.com/schizophrenia-and-asd.html

@nfy I’ve already got that link downloaded. The article makes no mention of prognosis .

“schizophrenia with Asperger’s syndrome” “prognosis” 2 results
“schizophrenia and Asperger’s syndrome” “prognosis” About 2,930 results but when I click to go to the second page Page 2 of about 15 results (0.29 seconds)

I just thought it might lead you in the right direction.

Thank you for taking the time to find it. It’ll no doubt help others,so it wasn’t a wasted effort.

Well you got me working.
Hell, I have nothing better to do at the moment.

This has a few mentions of prognosis.
I’m trying to find more, I’m on a mission.
Why, I have no idea but it’s kinda fun to mess with the search engine.

That’s about all I could find, don’t know if it even helps but they were interesting reads.

In adult populations there is considerable overlap among the three symptom domains. In the World Health Organization’s 1979 follow-up study of patients with psychosis in a number of international centres, among the symptoms portending a poor prognosis were stereotypes, posturing mannerisms, waxy flexibility, autism, social withdrawal, ‘unwillingness to cooperate’ (negativism) and poor rapport (10).

I wouldn’t say I’m really bad in terms of prognosis, but I’m also not really good.

I do wonder whether I’d have done better if the Asperger’s had been recognised much earlier and taken into account re help and support
.

Well unfortunately you can’t go back and change things.
But you can seek support or therapy for what you are finding troubling in your life .

I know I would have been better off if I had therapy for the abuse I experienced as a child, when I was still a kid.
But it is what it is.

Seeking that is hard. Bottom line-there’s little help for adults with Asperger’s , let alone those who also have schizophrenia .

As a late middled aged person with chronic SMI I’m not at the front of the queue for help and support. I get more help here thanks to my stepdaughter. Also having monthly jabs in my flat allows for more interaction with the nurse, compared to when I went to the depot clinic in Essex. I’ve seen a pdoc once in the 21 months I’ve been here. No therapy has been recommended.

You can’t try to set up an appointment for help or have your stepdaughter find something?
I don’t really know how the medical system works over there.

There is an option to seek private, non NHS,help but that’s not something you can easily afford on a low income.

Oh, I didn’t know that.
I guess it’s similar here.
If you have insurance specialists have somewhat affordable copays.
But cash only specialists are very expensive.

I’ve had several doctors tell me that I’m an outlier, but what I have in common with a good number of the other outliers they are aware of is a Twelve Step background. We who have battled addiction approach life with a Recovery Mindset.

Addiction is not something I’ve experienced .Perhaps that makes me an exception on this forum.

@firemonkey
My best friend has both. Now he wants to end the friendship because I say you know. You know. I’m speechless.

Can you please give me his perspective if he was you? Thanks!
