Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, and Binge Spending

Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder are often accompanied by binge spending. It feels therapeutic but, remember, you’re not thinking clearly due to the illness. And if you have schizoaffective disorder in particular, you might be in the middle of a manic high. Here’s what can happen with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder when you pull out the credit card for a round of binge spending.

only thing I binge buy is books…I usually at least read the first 50-100 pages before retiring it the side of my night table.

i think @anon31257746 said he did the same thing…manically buy books. i’m trying to read the ones i have now though

ah this explains my six laptops and monster custom built pc…all bought in like the same year…i couldn’t stop drooling over computers and then i’d just go click click on amazon and poof computer at my doorstep.

I also binge bought a bunch of books, but that was okay because they were all used. Now, though, I have like three bookcases that are all overflowing from that delusional manic spree where I thought I had to collect all the books…

In 2014 I blew a pile of money on some business machinery that didn’t work as planned. Extravagant vacuum system idea…(It all collects dust in garage now) cost - 10k (recouped a bit of it)

In 2015 I thought I wanted to be a YouTube channel person so I bought expensive camera equipment and lighting and all sorts of stuff. ( I never use any of it) cost 3k +

In 2013 it was big trips

In 2012 it was a truck that was impossible to fix

this year I’m on guard to make sure I don’t fall into the binge spend.

Oh id have a few bucks saved if this didn’t happen lol

I tell you what I binge spent all my money on

drugs and one video game that turned out to be terrible and bought completely in gold coins (f***ing idiot)

The only thing I binge spend on is alcohol. I sometimes finance a drinking party. That’s a double whammy. Not only am I broke from this, I’m also hung over.

Yeah. This would be the last time I went off my meds. With credit cards.

I have periods when I spend a little more than usual but not I don’t think to the extent of binge spending. I am very limited on the things I buy ie not into gadgets, rarely buy books, ditto with CDs(mainly because I don’t have a cd player. I know you can play them on the computer but it’s not the same). I do have spells when I make quite large donations to charity. Other than that I can spend quite a lot on food but not enough to get me in debt.
