This tells you the words that were added to the lexicon the year you were born. Fun times.

Funny. It kinda does remind me of the past. I was surprised to see ‘killer app’ it must have meant something different I think. Maybe for appliances or something of that nature. Kuiper Belt was on there too. People must have been fixated on aliens at the time.

Edit: Maybe not, I also saw e-book there. I didn’t have the internet until about 98.

I saw 1986. Crack and Crack baby. Jeez I almost felt bad for finding those words slightly humorous. Maybe the fact that Merriam-Webster coined them was funny. The HIV one made it less funny. Real life problems at the time.

My dad was born in 51, some of his gems: aw shucks, angry young man, autistic disorder, clinical depression, fast food, manic depressive illness

Yeah, those hit me hard. My brother was also born in 86 and he was born addicted to cocaine.

That almost looks like it could be a sentence. Cause and effect maybe?

Yikes. I have an uncle who was addicted to cochise, now he’s addicted to crystal meth. Those drugs destroy lives. Sorry to hear about your brother.

I keep hoping my cousin (his son) will recover from addiction. He’s been in rehab 3 times now and each time he falls back on old habits.

Addiction is so rough. It’s appalling how little the US cares about it, though. Like, how is putting an addict in jail going to help them in any possible way? Rich dudes just want slave labor. It’s disgusting.

Small amounts have basically been decriminalized in Mexico. It’s pretty bad in Tijuana since it’s a border town it’s flooded with drugs. It’s not unheard of to see huge seizures of drugs being found by law enforcement. The thing is those are just the ones they find. So much drugs get trafficked over the border. In Tijuana a lot of people are addicted to crystal meth. It’s really bad.

In the early 2000’s the federales killed the drug kingpin of the cartel that controlled Tijuana and a few neighboring border cities. It cause a power struggle for different cartels who are at war with each other. At one point Tijuana was the most dangerous city in the world. I remember hearing an interview of a police officer who mentioned it didn’t really hit him until later that the city of Tijuana was worse than being in a warzone.
