Went for a check up today. Have a chipped filling. Getting that fixed and getting a scale and polish at the end of the month.
I get this free on the NHS. We are lucky in the uk.

You guys get free dental care in portugal @minnii?
You’ve got free dentist? That’s awesome. Even with our NHS here, dentists are mostly private. Can’t get an appointment with a free one even if you sell your soul.
Here dentists are often private but some do nhs work. If you are sick, unemployed, pregnant or elderly you get this for free. Luckily I live in a deprived area so there are a lot of NHS dentists.
I try not to take them for granted.
I had a great dentist when I was hospitalized, didn’t hurt a thing pulling one out, super fast and clean. And great guy too. Tried to get an appointment with him after I was out of the hospital and couldn’t.
Found my current one, that’s also really good but yeah, not free.
Are the private ones government subsidised? I think in the states dental work can be really expensive.
Not really, but it depends on the dentist. Some dentists have more name brand than actually being good at what they do, those are pretty expensive. Mine is like 45€ an appointment, and if he can’t find anything to do he doesn’t even charge. But I had to put an implant and it cost me 1500€
Wow! That is a lot. Saying that I don’t think you can get an implant on the NHS - just basic stuff. But I got free braces as a kid.
Our NHS systems are pretty similar from what I can see. Just the nurses/pdoc situation is different.
What is your nurse/pdoc set up?
I only see my nurses to get my shots, or in an emergency situation if the guys in desk are not cooperative, the nurses can help me get in touch with my pdoc. I’m not elligible for social services or benefits, too high functioning and with enough money for meds.
My pdoc handles all my case though, in a situation where I have to change pdocs, e.g. he stops working there, the next pdoc will be fully aware of my situation. It works well, from what I’ve experienced here.
Well done for going Jimbob, if you are at all like me then it is scary as fk
