Running out of quetiapine

My prescription is running out before I can see pdoc due to va scheduling. So I’m going to go without for 10 to 14 days the way meds are mailed out. I’m on 300mg a day. Should I expect any problems from a cold turkey pause for a couple weeks? I know my sleep is going to go away.

Thanks. 3.14159

Call the VA and see if your doctor can get them filled earlier. I have done this and they are usually pretty understanding. :hamster::hamster::hamster:

It has a really short half life. You could go bananas.

If it were me, I’d start rationing what I have left, and e.g. take 300mg every other day to double the amount of time I have meds.

Seroquel withdrawal is intense, I’d get a pdoc appointment ASAP.

You can go to the VA Pharmacy and request a supply of Seroquel while waiting for mail refill. In my experience, they may have you talk to a mental health professional before giving you a supply in-person.

They prefer to mail refills. Your pdoc should have set you up for a year supply, so you can request refills online or over the phone. I used to do it over the phone years ago, but it’s easier to do it online at: myhealth.va.gov

If I go a day or several days without Seroquel, the withdrawal may kick in. For me, it’s: minor stomach pain and feeling lethargic. I don’t have problems with sleep, although the Seroquel definitely helps me sleep or have consistent sleep patterns.

I’ve called in and I was told that they are going to put in an order. But that’s all I’ve been told. So far I’ve still got no prescription put in. Should be interesting. Maybe I’ll be one with no bad side effects.

Most times a regular pdoc or an ER doctor will write you an emergency script until you can get more meds. That’s worth pursuing instead of giving up entirely. A missed dose for that long will not go well for you. It’s your responsibility to take proper steps to figure out a solution that doesn’t involve being unmedicated for so long.

All I can do is call. And I have. The psych nurse who responded to me said “ I’ve requested a renewal for quetiapine”. I live in a rural area. I’m almost 18 miles to the nearest pharmacy and more than 40 miles from the clinic. I have no transportation till the second week in July so my options are limited. This is one of the downsides of sharing a car. Sometimes it’s gone when I want it.

I didn’t mean to be so hard on you. I would focus on finding someone to give you a ride. You could call your nearest clinic or hospital and explain you don’t have transportation. And that you need your meds. I would make it a priority to reach out to someone, a friend, neighbor, anyone to get you a ride to the hospital or nearest doctor and get you an emergency script filled.

I get my meds from the VA and if you call the pharmacy and tell them the issue usually they can rectify it.
