Although myriad examples of highly specific learning exist, only a handful of training paradigms have been established where learning seems more general. These learning paradigms are typically more complex than laboratory manipulations and correspond to real-life experiences, such as action video game training, musical training, or athletic training.
I do really like the Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto games. Haven’t played them in more than a year. I exercise 1-2 hours a day. I’ve never played a musical instrument before.
Several studies reported that older adults also benefited from AVG(action video game) training. Basak et al. (2008) revealed that older adults in the AVG training group presented significant improvements in working memory, abstract reasoning, distractor inhibition, and mental rotation and a significant reduction in task-switching costs relative to older adults in control group
The results demonstrated that healthy adults achieved moderate improvements in overall cognitive ability through AVG(action video game) training. For specific cognitive domains, healthy adults achieved moderate benefits on visuospatial ability and processing speed/attention, nearly close to moderate benefits on executive function, and small benefits on memory.
@firemonkey action video games might help your executive function.
I’ve never been able to get on with computer games, apart from Football manager( until they did a major revamp of it). If could get past the frustration of not getting past level 1 on a game that would be a major success for me . I 'm not really keen on forking out for computer games I’d really struggle to be any good at .
