Reading calms me, too. I usually try to read before i go to sleep at night. It can be tricky though, not losing focus.
Reading books tends to set me off because I get excited. Interesting.

Some books calm me, Some cause me distress. I recently read a dutch book about hearing voices which soothed me and the book “noone cares about crazy people” distressed me.
