Rap music is my favorite genre for the first time in a while

Since I was probably 21, well rap was always my favorite genre. All types of hip hop. I remember when old school rap was only 1989 and before. Now it’s 1999 or later even and before. Well, right now I’m into all the new stuff. Like I was when I was in my teenage years. Discuss hip hop if you’re a fan.

For the last 7 years I liked classic rock the most and rap second.

It’s one of the few genres I dislike

I’ve never liked rap

I like the old black artists from the 70’s

but the 90’s were quite a decade for every genre.

are there any female rap stars?

it seems like a guy thing.

What’s the difference between hip hop and rap? I never understood… :frowning:

Hip hop refers to the whole culture. There are four elements of hip hop: b-boying (breakdancing), turntablism (DJing), graffiti and rap. Rap just refers to the music itself.

Great explanation ! Thanks !

That is the technical difference between the two. A lot of people use the terms interchangeably to both refer to the music, though.

You’ve never heard nicki Minaj, eve, missy elliot, cardi b, Lauren hill, lil Kim. Then there’s like Fergi and iggy azalea, azalea banks, blondie

These are the most popular female rappers. Yes there is women in rap but is more a mans game

But there are plenty of women r&b/pop artists who collaborate with rappers too

Oh, I love Lauren Hill

I have at least one of her CD’s

I didn’t know that was considered rap.

The others ones, no not really, I might know them if I heard it.

Cardi b I don’t like her personality anymore she makes me cringe if any one does but I think she’s good. She’s pretty new.

Nikki Minaj is probably the most successful female rapper ever.

I forgot about queen latifah too.

I felt good this morning, Travis scott lil uzi ugly god, juice wrld.

Listened to liveloveasap 2 days ago, that music saved my life and made me who I am today.

Always been a tyler fan. Earl, etc. These guys saved me from losing myself. They are mesdianic figures to me, and continue to be so more and more as time passes.

Sheck Wes, very interesting flow on Mo Bamba. I got sick when fetty wap emerged out of the ether.

Primordial mumble rap:

Was recovering for several yrs.

I’m slow to catch on but will never stop following.

I do not care about pop music, as such, pop rap does not interest me.

I call it hip-pop really. All these rappers start off freestyle rapping, spitting hard underground stuff. Then they go pop. Cardi b talked about it in one of her songs that’s on the radio. “They say cardi went pop”. Then I forget what else she said. In hip hop you can “go pop” and still be considered a rapper. This guy post Malone originally considered a rapper is now considered pop by the Grammys. And yeah I like to dance to it a lil lol.

I still like rap from time to time. I do not listen to it as much as before. I am unfamiliar with most of today’s rappers.
