I have a friend who is schizophrenic//schizoaffective and was fired from his dishwashing job for being too “sensitive” ie not being able to work all the hours required. He lives with his dad and has been stable for 8 years, only just decided to go off his meds a month ago, and is ALSO applying for social security benefits. Do you think he still has a chance of getting benefits if he’s refusing meds? He was getting the Invega shot. Thank you

I’ve also wondered the same question. Do you need to be medicated in order to receive benefits? I believe you must be on medication in order to keep getting benefits but I may be wrong .

I think you need to be on meds to get SSI because you need to see a psychiatrist.
