I am so confused, and so is my therapist. She says a lot of my symptoms are exactly like someone’s who’s experienced a trauma. But I’ve NEVER been through a trauma.
Sort of. I had those 2-3 years of my life where I was viciously abused sexually, mentally and emotionally by the demons. I still get constant flashbacks from that and a lot of things will set me off and I’ll be in a mood for some time.
But that wasn’t real!! It was all hallucinations and delusions! Can hallucinations give you PTSD??
The only other thing I can think of is that I went through serious crap in my past lifetime. (I believe in reincarnation.)
Does anyone have any experience with this or know any kind of explanation?
Interesting article, thanks for sharing! The only thing is that I KNOW nothing weird has happened to me. It’s not like I have any giant gaps of lost time. I remember my childhood, really fondly actually. It was completely normal, great even. So I don’t think there’s anything buried in my subconscious.
I do believe that someone can experience PTSD from hallucinations and delusions. While it is happening the brain thinks it is real so it makes sense that the resulting trauma would be the same as if it had really happened. Just because you now know that it was an hallucination that doesn’t mean that the experience was not traumatic.
I do believe that this illness, the constant voices berating us, the feeling of always being vulnerable and exposed… not sure what is real within our minds, having the paranoia and feeling like we can’t even trust those closest to us… That IS traumatic.
I do believe that we can suffer some PTSD just by living with this illness.
