Bit of an obscure allusion there. I refer to the torture and eventual manslaughter of a 16 year girl named Sylvia Likens in Indianapolis over the course of 3 months in 1965. I was wondering if anyone else had come across the case. It reminds me of 1960s Psychology Experiments, eg Stanford BoBo Doll experiment or Stanford Prison (1971) Experiment.
But this was real life and among the most troubling things about it is that there was nothing to be gained from torturing a 16 year old girl to death, it was a heinous crime with no Motive. And the perpetrators were eventually caught out and jailed.
It draws out many philosophical questions regarding what is the Nature of Insanity and Evil.
Two fictionalised films have been made about it: An American Crime and The Girl Next Door(2007) .

The mean girls in high school set me on the path to misogyny, hence, when I watched The Girl Next Door, it made me feel terribly guilty and ill…I mean “schizophrenically ill”.
