Prozac, it's what the dr ordered!

For depression or OCD there’s nothing like good ol Prozac. It’s the best ad for me. I’m on 35 Mgs working up to 40 and it has improved my life dramatically.

Thanks @everhopeful. After my psychosis I was broken in my mind. I could not stop obsessing about being crazy. It was an endless loop like a cat chasing its tail. I thought that my mind was gone forever. Prozac with an antipsychotic has allowed me to be able to think clearly again.
Don’t get me wrong I’m still scared shitless of another episode. But at least when I’m Aron’s the house I feel content and can even feel some joy.
If you suffer from depression u highly reccomend this medicine.

Prozac was brutal for me, gave me homicidal akathisia. Lexapro has been a miracle, though. It’s funny how meds work differently for different people.

So glad to hear that it’s helping you. Hope you keep feeling better.

What exactly is homicidal akathisia?

Yes I agree @Rhubot that meds affect is all differently. Someone in my family is on lexapro and they seem to be doing pretty well. I’m sure it’s a great medication.
I just happy to have some of my mind back. The Prozac brought things back into focus like tuning the dial on an old radio. I thought I would share that with the group for some who may be suffering from depression or OCD. Depression in my case is so serious that I have been completely and totally disabled.

It’s awful! Basically within a day of starting Prozac, I was so angry and agitated and frustrated that I wanted to murder people. It happens when you lack the ability to metabolize some of the components in some antidepressants, either because you don’t have the proper genetics or you haven’t developed the mechanisms yet.

Homicidal akathisia is more common with teenagers because in some people, those mechanisms don’t develop until adulthood. Which is awful, because teenagers also have underdeveloped impulse control. I was lucky that my mom listened to me and demanded a med change immediately. It can happen to anyone at any age, though.

This is also why it’s important for us to report weird mood changes immediately when we’re on new meds.

It happened for me on Prozac and Paxil, but it can happen on pretty much any SSRI and not happen on the next one. Someone else might be fine on Prozac but react like that on Lexapro.

Sounds scary!!

I had a great response to Prozac when I was first on it. I went off it for years and when I went back on, I had terrible side effects AND it didn’t help me.

Just goes to show that not only do individuals respond differently, but the same person also can respond differently at different times of their life.

Funny how just slight differences in meds can make all the difference.
