How do I get my psychiatrist and therapist to write letters stating that I’m disabled? They don’t see me outside of the office so they don’t know how my illness effects me at home and at work. How do I get them the information they need to write such a letter? The lawyer I found says that he wants to get letters later on but I’m not sure how to make sure the people have what they need to write the letters.
If you have been hospitalized and can not work - can not focus then just ask your doc and tell that you are currently incapable.
I tried working but was making so many mistakes - they fired me

Maybe if I have my ex boss say I was making too many mistakes… ?
If you’ve been seeing them for a while, then they should have a good understanding of your mental state (at home or work) through their sessions and talks with you, no?
if not then you should have a talk or session with them, so that they can evaluate you; I think.

I would just ask them. Tell them you are not capable of working and you need a letter stating that you are disabled. Hopefully they will comply.

All you need to do to prove your disability is to have a pdoc’s statement saying you have schizophrenia and you can’t work because the stress of a job would be too taxing for your illness. Period.
That’s a problem though because I don’t have Schizophrenia. I have Schizoaffective Disorder. But under US disability regulations there IS no disability for SzA. I can either get disability for Sz or for a mood disorder. So it’s very confusing.
