Probiotics and Gut Health for Depression

What are your thoughts on pre-/probiotic foods in relation to the keto diet? It’s my main reason not to go full keto.

My opinion of Keto is that is must be done right with plenty of fiber. Schizophrenics tend to have poor gut health when compared to control subjects. “Healthy” keto adds LOTS and LOTS of veggies.

In fact, there have been 4 total subjects that I have found that had Bi-Polar go into remission with a fecal transplant. Bi-Polar was so bad they were on disability. Here is the one I could find real fast, 2 others did it in a clinical setting:

My personal gut health was not right after my microbiome testing, until I really focused on it, even though I consider myself to eat ultra healthy. Husband did lots of research on prebiotics / postbiotics and tests are much much better in the past year

(thanks to my husband for the articles)

Prebiotics and probiotics, you need them regardless if diet.
And yeah are some foods that are considered probiotics. Personally I do not drink yogurt as exemple.
I remember @BioHack you mentioned something about digestive enzimes

My issue with your posts is that you speak with authority, even though some of your info is inaccurate. Please be careful to remember you speak from personal experience and you aren’t qualified to tell others what to consume. Posting articles and info is fine but you need to make sure they are accurate. Thank you. @BioHack

No. Do not take those without doctors approval. They can make you have gi issues if taking too many.

That is not what I am trying to do. Can you give me an example from above so I can improve?

I see I used “My opinion” and “My personal gut health” when I posted.

Don’t tell people to take certain supplements. They need to consult their doctors before doing so. And this is not the only thread of yours I am talking about.

It is fine @anon55031185. @BioHack does not tell anyone what to do. It is just shared infirmation based on her experience.
Anyone can take that experience and bring it to a discution with a pdoc and check if is good or not.

Personally I want to know what everyone is taking and how they feel. I understand for each is personal and might not apply to smbd else

@Davincii why are you getting involved. The information and articles the op uses are not 100% accurate or verified by reliable sources. A lot or studies that have not been proven.

@anon55031185 I did ask, because I want to know more on the health subject. And because of asking I felt some shared info were because of me. That’s all.

I’m merely telling the op not to post articles unless verified, and not to recommend supplements until first advised by a doctor.

I know for certain, overdose of digestive enzymes is bad for your gut. So you need to talk to a doctor first about dosage or whether or not you need them in the first place.

I know. But almost nothing as far as research is 100% accurate.
But I have ideeas to do my own research if needed or wanted.

It is not proven that gut health fixes depression. Most credited scientists have debunked it. Probiotics have not been shown to improve depression in most studies.

That’s very good to know and be aware of…thanks @anon55031185.
I love it when I get more important info.

I think part of the problem here is that she speaks with authority. Some people are just going to assume that what she says is always accurate. I personally don’t have time to verify every claim made. It’s very important that you talk to your doctor before following advice made on a message board on the internet. You could be doing more harm than good.

Well I doubt that myself, at least for people whom takes AP as they block dopamine and serotonine.

Very good point.
