I was recently talking to one of my students who moved to NYC and was complaining he couldn’t find a 2 bedroom for under $8,000 a month in Manhattan. This led me to look up prices of psychiatrists and the prices look absolutely insane. Many doctors charge $400 or $500 for 45 minute sessions and don’t take insurance.
How can the common man afford to live in NYC anyway?
When I was living in NY in 2011, my condo was paid for by my company. It was a 1-bedroom in the times square area and cost $5000 a month. If you want to live in Manhattan you need a good job. But I wasn’t able to cope with the stress and had my first psychosis. Sucks.
I used to pay that much. Once I remember I called a psychiatrist and he said he charges 1400 dollars for a session. Insane.
And, the psychiatrists are not necessarily high quality. The one I was seeing said that Ziprasidone rarely works. For three years he didn’t prescribe me Ziprasidone, and I was in psychosis/mania. Then I started it myself and now I am symptom free.
I live now in Leuven, Belgium. I came back after my first psychosis from NY to Brussels and when I went on disability I moved back to my hometown Leuven.
i lived there for like 8 months but then went back to South Korea for 3 months and since then back at home in Belgium. London was terrible for me…
Did you like London?
I was staying in South Kensington and had a long commute to Canary Wharf each morning. In the heat of June glued to the window in the tube. I hate London public transport. But some things are Nice. Like the buildings, Parks, museums,…
I also lived 8 months in Geneva and 1 year in Singapore. I got to travel quit a lot when I was younger. But I started corporate international life at age 21. I was too young and too sensitive for that world.
yea i traveled for a while too when i was getting really sick… i have some good thoughts of it but i was getting breakthrough symptoms and that made things hard. I really liked it in Busan… but now i’m good at my home in the north of Antwerp.
