Poll: How did you do academically?

I started well but after the age of 9 till leaving school there was a gradual drop in academic performance. By the time I left school, to go into hospital for the first time, I was a B-/C+ student.

  • I always did well
  • I always did averagely
  • I always did poorly

It has been over 20 years when I was at the school, but then I was quite good, in the technological university in Finland I passed all course requirements in less than three years, normally it takes 4-5 years, I was a course assistant at the same time in marketing, software programs and operational research. Then after this I studied at one business school in America and my GPA was 3.65 (of 4), so over 20 years ago I was academically quite good,

With all of my struggles/symptoms I did pretty well in High School, considering my situation and what I was dealing with.
In college I became very symptomatic - the drugs did not help me at all. My grades started suffering, and I had to leave because I was unraveling - trying to go to school while symptomatic is a daunting task

When I started at Oklahoma University I had a GPA above 3.5. I was on the wagon and going to AA then. I fell off the wagon. My GPA dropped precipitously. I missed a lot of classes. Oh well, live and learn. That was a long time ago.

I was an A or B+ student in High School so I did well. I won a few academic awards, and enjoyed studying. Since I got sick, I couldn’t concentrate on studies anymore, but still did well when I could.

I was excellent academically as a kid, (I got awards, was on honor roll, way ahead of everyone, etc.) then really declined in hs to dead average, B’s and C’s. It was really depressing and upsetting to me and I felt like I had lost all my ability.

Now I’m in college and I’m back to all A’s with a couple B’s! Woo. I don’t really know how that worked out. I guess I didn’t know how to study.

i won awards for my school believe it or not when i was in primary school then when i went to secondary school i was not trying very hard getting into trouble and started to decline. i got C’s and D’s and i was suspended a good few times, i also started to miss class in favour of stealing to pay for lunch and cigarettes.

I went to OU too !! my overall gpa when I graduated was 2.1 which is why I got the 4 year architecture degree insteaf of the 5 year BArch in Architecture…caused me to have to intern longer and I was nearly licensed when I fell ill at 35.

I didn’t always give it much attention. I was a normal person then.

I think my decline was caused by undiagnosed and unrecognised, what are now called in the UK, learning difficulty. In the US the term used would be learning disability.
In UK education services, the term ‘learning difficulty’ includes children and
young people who have ‘specific learning difficulties’, for example dyslexia,
but who do not have a significant general impairment of intelligence.

Interesting to note that out of those that have voted so far more than half started well and then declined. I wonder at what age people started to decline academically(for me it was 9) , and whether the decline was gradual or not.

I was told once I would be a later in life learner. Seems to be the case as did very poorly in school. However did some night classes a few years ago and was getting A’s & B’s. Was cramming at the time and trying to catch up half way through the year to do year 11&12 in a year. Surprised the hell out of me as thought I was thick as two short planks. No one corrected me on that assumption until I was 30ish.

I was always the horse who falls 2 meters before the finish line.

I would have GRAET year round scores… and blow the final. I would create a great project and then do something horrid on presentation day.

I’ve been trying not be that horse anymore. I’ve been trying to learn follow through.

My brother was pretty smart and skipped a grade.
But I was way smarter and thus skipped University.
