I was put in a few times, the first time was because I was a minor in an adult psych, but I had to be in there because I tried (trigger warning?) slitting my throat
in the Pediatrics ward.
The first time I was in psych ward I was put in a isolation room.
It was tiny and stank of Feacsies ,urine and vomit.
There was nothing soft in the room .
So tiny and hard surface every where.
I was held down by five or so people on the ground and I could not breath properly they twisted my arm and put weight on me and pressed me down.
It was claustrophobic and traumatic.
That place should not be legally permitted given how it stank and the hard bright awful lighting etc
Last time I was in s psych ward they had me in one but I begged them to not leave me there alone.
This room was probably ten times bigger or more and had a soft warm lighting and a soft mattress .
Much nicer room.
A better option that they should use instead of that other one that should be illegal.
They gave me a needle in my bum because I refused to take medication and the they took me to a “normal room”.
I appreciate that they listened to me when I begged please please don’t leave me here and that it was such a nicer room than the other cruel place at the other ward many years ago.
Yes, various isolation rooms, and also been in 4 point restraints and police cells when psychotic. I don’t think they should put confused people in police cells, especially when not aggressive. And they should come up with friendlier decorated isolation rooms and more explanation of what they are doing.
I never was aggressive towards others, but sometimes I hurt myself or they were afraid I would.
They also put me in isolations rooms or police cells for the weirdest, stupidest reasons though…
Praying in the facility garden --> isolation room
Sitting still on a bench in the train station and refusing to move or talk to an officer --> shackles, police car, cell.
Just wandering around confused --> isolation room
I found the isolation rooms very scary and traumatizing, and the whole being in a ward and being in a police cell as well. One time I ran away from the hospital in confusion and travelled to a nearby country (1 hour train ride). There I eventually walked up to a police officer and said I wanted to go back home. Without explaining anything, they took me to a heavily secured facility, with military guys with huge guns and they put me in the cell, where I had to stay a day, without anyone explaining what happened or how long I had to stay or what they were planning to do. I literally thought I was being sent to hell, so it was all rather frightening.
