Poem about the thing only I can hear

I used to think you were cool,
Like an audible power only I could hear,
Unlike the voices, you are always here,
Closer to me than anything, near.

I believe I was a mistaken fool,
A plausible excuse only for fear,
Poor choices, roaring in my ear,
Not a deluded tool, you have one rule.

The darkness, sweet sleep chance of quietness,
You stay with me, but not before us,
That damn ringing won’t stop, my life will still pass,
Pain in the side of the head, loud ol’ tinnitus.

Pad

Deaf in one ear, daft in the other.
