so i have started a course last month learning about care and i just learned today that i will have to complete one full days placement a week for 6 months, really want to be able to do that but worried at the same time, i get very anxious sometimes and i am worried it might affect this placement hope it doesnt though
Can you help me understand what you mean by “placement” . I don’t understand this - is it work experience of some sort?
daydreamer, youre a nice guy who has been through the hoops (as regars schizophrenia). You understand mental illness very well. Other classmates know sweet f*ck all. Youre a nice guy and your internet charm will radiate outwards Im sure…
what Im saying is im sure you will ace it.
yes, i will be doing work experience under supervision, its unpaid basically voluntary work but you get assessed as you go along, you need to keep a record of what you learn and it all ties in, i am pretty lucky as my teacher is going to support me and talk me through it (idk how it will work) but i hope they dont just throw me into the hardest thing there is,
a student psychiatric nurse is volunteering at my hospital and the other staff go easy on her.
By the way, what exactly are yo volunteering at,
idk yet i havent been allocated a placement yet its in the care profession though,
my preferences are
- mental health
- children and parents
- learning disabilities
so hopefully the top one bc i put that as my number one choice
Volunteerism is nifty. I think the modern world needs to learn how to appreciate more of it & void out the constant dependency on “money” to fix things.
If I had the strength & vitality in the brain to work a part-time volunteer job, I’d like to look into community clean-up projects. Cleaning up litter from parks, beaches, highways, streets, etc… as a volunteer would be up my alley for “work”.
It’d be nice if we had a living wage system and volunteer projects were common and well-known. In a hardcore capitalist model, everyone is simply way too frugal with not only their money but their time. I’m hoping that the U.S. picks up on what certain parts of the UK & Europe are doing with a living wage system and try leading the way with it. (I’m not a socialist or communist, but am pretty close when it comes to economic values).
I think you will do a great job. My mom and my friend just finished their clinical rotations. Both of them have severe anxiety disorders, and they spent a lot of nights hyperventilating into a bag or popping Xanax to get some sleep, but they did it. Just keep telling yourself it’s only temporary. You can handle intense stress if it is only temporary. I know you’re highly motivated to make it through, and that is the main factor in whether you pass or fail.
Look at all the things you have already done. There are lots of us here who could never imagine going back to school, especially in a medical field. You have accomplished a lot, and you will keep on accomplishing things.
You’ll get used to it after a few weeks and then it won’t seem so threatening.
i hope so, i’ll let you know what happens x
