Thing is with disability benefits it’s not about what your diagnosed with that secures you benefits it’s how that disability affects you. If you are seeing a CPN or are under the mental health team, you need reminders and encouragement to take medication you will be awarded PIP, the more proof you have that you need support will help you get PIP.

I know. I know it. Don’t think I’ll get it. Never expected to but worth a shot.

I didn’t think my mate would get ESA support group, he has depression, no support from mental health team, very independent, takes medication without prompting. I think somebody with SZ/SZA who has been sectioned or had input from services in the past should be fine. You only hear horrors stories online from the people who have been denied benefits and considering there are lots and lots of people Dx with SZ/SZA claiming ESA/PIP there isn’t many people online with that condition complaining of being denied benefits, the few people who have denied or lost their award have been well for years and years and are compliant with their meds with no input from services.

I remember on the old incapacity benefits awards people with SZ/SZA/Psychosis was automatically exempt from medical assessments, that stopped when they changed the benefits from IB to ESA. Now the government has announced that people with Chronic conditions will again be exempt from future assessments, they are possibly going to say which conditions in the budget on 22nd of September. Since SZA/SZA is a chronic and disabling condition I think they are going to exempt people with it.
