Piano Epiphany!

When I started out studying piano 14 and a half years ago, I told my first teacher that I wanted to study classical piano. I don’t know why but I was very sure about this despite knowing absolutely nothing about classical music. I had never listened to classical music and had never enjoyed it much. All my listening experience was in rock and pop music from the 1960’s to the early 2000’s.

In meditation tonight, I got the epiphany that the reason I struggle so much on the piano with my classical piano pieces is because I usually have no idea what the piece is supposed to sound like. So, I’m shooting in the dark when I play.

I think I’m gonna tell my current teacher that I want to play both classical pieces and classic rock and pop tunes from now on. I think I will enjoy my repertoire a lot more and even progress much faster.
