has anyone ever had help from a peer support person before?
I ask bc i am training to be certified in peer 2 peer support and today was the 3rd session, it was very nice, it was set within the clubhouse and 2 of there staff were facilitating it and we even did a bit of roleplay.
I currently am seeing my second peer support specialist. My first one was better because we could relate to each other. She has bipolar and had been psychotic for an extended period of time before they got her meds right. My current peer had treatment for being transgendered, and having depression and anxiety. So she doesn’t relate to what I’m going through with people telling me what I see and hear are not real. I may end up getting a new peer. I like her, but she’s not helping me much.
I wish i had a peer worker when i was younger, i tried to ge a so called ‘buddy’ but she came in and saw my dad sitting in his pants and that was the end of that lol
peer support is getting increasingly popular now, the nhs up here just employed 10 peer support workers, i know of a charity that has one too
