Parenting... Ugh

Got an email from the Mrs. yesterday warning me to go easy on the kid because she had accidentally dropped her tablet at school yesterday and broken the display (not just cracked, but broken the electronics in it, too). Kid was distraught and fearful of discipline. This is a $700 tablet. I had fortunately purchased accident insurance for it, so it will be repaired at no charge. I started a claim and the UPS shipping label is already on its way, so there’s that.

Still came home to a traumatized kid. I’m not good with crying females. I tried the ‘hugs and hot chocolate’ approach. Have been up half the night since dealing with her wound up my symptoms.

Arrrrrrrrrrrgh.

I can help you out. I used to tutor kids.

just kidding. I know what you mean. I’ve been a listener on 7cups. a lot of people talking about issues that I don’t understand, but who need someone to listen to them. It’s torture sometimes. and these are adults, mind you. so I’m taken a good long break from it…

too bad you can’t take a break, in your situation…

It was a perfect storm for the kid. First day back at school after Christmas break, er… “lady issues”, exam anxiety (test scores due), and then she broke her favourite possession by accident. And it was an accident – she wasn’t being careless – I’ve seen how much she babies her tablet. Took me a couple of hours to wind her down last night which was basically her transferring her stress to me. Gawd.

Glad I only have one kid – no idea how parents with six kids cope.

well those families are usually very well-off and wealthy; so it’s not rocket science, eh?

One of my kid’s BFFs comes from a family with six kids. They probably make half of what we do and I don’t think their diets are the best as a result. My wife and I are comfortable, but a large part of that stems from not having more kids than we can afford.

true, I probably would be very happy with just one child; unless my wife wanted more. my wife is an imaginary wife though, so I know for a fact that she will never want more kids. ever.
