Paper or plastic? I had grown to think almost everyone recycled

In my parents neighborhood, everyone had a recycle bin. I had grown to believe it was pretty much standard.

Since I have moved, I have begun to understand that this is not as common of a practice as I had thought.

I look around this neighborhood and there is barely a blue bin(Recycling bins are blue here) in sight other than ours.

I dont know if its because it costs money for the bin or if people are just lazy, maybe both, but we are an island in a world of non - recyclers here.

You would kind of think it would be wise , if recycling is supposed to be encouraged, that governments would make this a free enterprise to encourage more people to do it.

In Scotland you pay a county tax which covers a number of services - recycling being one of them.

the county has reduced the frequency of general garbage pick up so it kinda forced everyone to recycle.

we get the bins for free and everyone has them

In Cornwall we have to separate our food waste so there’s weekly food waste, alternate fortnightly rubbish and recycling collections.

I think the authorities should make it easy to recycle everywhere. After all they make money on our recycling, that we ironically have to pay for. They sell the recycle material, but this doesen’t seem to reflect in costs. At least not here. So it’s kind of a hidden tax.

I’ll keep recycling though. It’s the right thing to do.

The city my mom lives In incinerates everything - trash and recycling. I actually think that’s a great way to handle it. But for now, I recycle.
