Maybe it has to do with the food they eat and not the body fat itself?

My face was round up until 5th grade I guess, but I never was overweight.

I just looked up what also causes type 2 diabetes. We are already at risk due to atypical anti psycotics.

But did you know that living in a city close near Residential traffic increases the chance too.
And then there is pesticides that also increase the risk

It’s the other way around. First you get Schizophrenia, then the meds turn you into a Fat Zombie.

Maybe something to do with inflammation and excess weight.

Lots of diseases are linked to inflammation

I don’t think weight, in and of itself, has much, if anything, to do with developing schizophrenia.

Even though about 1% of the population has schizophrenia, that doesn’t mean that every person has a 1% chance of having schizophrenia due to schizophrenia being heritable. That said, schizophrenia is not 100% genetic. If we look at identical twins (same DNA), where one twin has schizophrenia, the other twin has a 40% chance of developing schizophrenia.

With all of that said, I think the reason overweight children have a greater risk of developing schizophrenia is due to bullying.

Overweight children get bullied and it screws up their psyche.

You’re welcome. Now just give me all of that research money and get bent.

Thank you for the link to the science paper itself!

I wonder how true are the conclusions of the work.

The authors are affiliated with Chinese institutions, and Science Advances is a journal that was established quite recently, in 2015, but has a high impact-factor.

I’m afraid one must be a statistician to be able to judge the soundness of the techniques used and data analyzed.
