Organizers of NYC Pride Parade ban LGBTQ police officers from marching in the parade

The Gay Officers Action League (GOAL), an organization within the NYPD that consists of LGBTQ police officers, and that has marched in the NYC Gay Pride Parade every year since 1982, has been banned from the parade for at least the next five years. Furthermore, all police officers working the parade must be at least one block away from the parade route and intervene only when it’s “absolutely necessary.”

Yes, I do think that some police officers abuse people who are LGBTQ, but banning GOAL from marching is a misguided attempt to create positive change, Also, asking police officers to keep their distance from the parade and intervene only when it’s “absolutely necessary” creates a dangerous situation for all people marching in the parade.
