So in Australia optus the phone company got hacked I got a email from them saying that my name, date of birth, phone number, email, address got hacked

Yeah it’s big news. They are reissuing drivers licences with new licence numbers here in Qld to those affected. It’s crazy a big company like that got hacked and it’s a mess for sure. I’d be changing passwords and doing things they recommend. Who knows how much fraud will come out of this.

Im curious why they would re-issue drivers licenses? So many data breaches of companies have happened, that one has to assume that much of our personal data is already out there.

Yeah it’s a mess. Part of the fill the dam wall with a finger one feels and I guess to look like they are doing something. Meanwhile the hackers are already extorting people about the information they have. We will hear more about it. Optus is like our second biggest telco or at least used to be.
