Opinion: Why are my mental health issues acceptable – but not my family’s?

I feel very lucky to have gotten depression rather than schizophrenia.

I read the article.

Having depression/anxiety/etc is very accepted.

I would dare to say even trendy.

It was such a shameful thing to have to take medication as a kid,

Or see a psychiatrist.

Now, however,

All my little cousins are medicated and see therapists regularly.

It’s kind of weird how things have changed.

But the writer is right, things have not changed much for the schizophrenia label.

I think it’s because everyone can relate to depression and anxiety.

They’re normal feelings.

Our symptoms are not as understandable.
