I had depressive symptoms without having a clinical depression. Now im on 10 mg olanzapine daily (300 mg in a depot injection once monthly, a lot of my depressive symptoms are gone. It took a month before it worked.
I don’t quite understand it. Most people on olanzapine say it is emotionally blunting and that they can’t feel themselves, and they get depressed or passive. Im much more active, working, excersising etc. on olanzapine than without.
Anyone have a similar experience or an explanation of the antidepressant effect of olanzapine?
Thanks @everhopeful … In fact i was hospitalized for 5 days and asked for an extra pn of olanzapine and when it worked the pdoc put me in depot injection instead of pills because have a tendency to decrease dose. After a month on 10 mg daily, i began to be more active.
I have been on olanzapine now for 4 weeks and I dont need “antidepressant” clasd medication anymore. Olanzapine successfuly reduced my anxiety and normalised my mood
Thanks @everhopeful@Newlyborn@san_pedro . One reason to its efficacy could be that it is agonizing serotonine very powerful. But i have never before been happy on SSRi and other serotonergic drugs…
I still have to keep myself active, and i still got some sadness, but in the background, so i can easily cope with it.
olanzapine has great mood stabilizing and anxiety reducing effects. some say it is a dirty med in the sense that it binds to so many different receptors which can cause side effects. but it is one of the most effective at the same time
Yeah, i had some effect of mirtazapine, another “dirty med” - it’s a bit annoying they can’t figure out which receptor is important… Glad it helped you
Olanzapine works wonders for me in small doses (5mg). It (along with another ap and ad) has cleared me up to me feeling normal provided I don’t get too stressed.
Good to hear @Pat6398@columbus@An_the-c-ology …Usually you hear a lot about the side-effects of Olanzapine, and especially the weight gain can be a problem, but there is also a more positive story about the drug.
