why is there no simple way to delete my account?

It becomes anonymous since deleting accounts can disrupt flow of conversations. Hence why instead of deleting account and all messages it just gets anonymized instead.
Not all hope is lost if you want to delete sensitive post (pictures, etc) you can individually report the post for it to be deleted.
this should be illegal. sites get away with crimes of not respecting your privacy.
Only accounts with no posts can be deleted. The forum software does not allow deletion of accounts that have posts. The best we can do in that case is to anonymize the account
