Next month I'm done paying off my students loan!

Next month is my last payment, then I’m done paying off my students loan. I’ve been paying for years because I couldn’t get a job when I was taking evening classes so I took a loan.

I’ll be able to save $100 or €100 a month.

Feels like I should celebrate. Perhaps I should buy myself something?? I dunno?

That’s good news. What did you study?

There are Black Friday promotions all around these days if you want to buy something. I think there is a thread about it by @shutterbug .

I was studying a “municipal adult education” because I was a high school drop out. At that point in my life I was prodromal and then became psychotic. I still can apply to university studies but my dream was to study medicine, biology or psychology so I need grades in physics, chemistry and maths.

The interest rates are low in Sweden. It has been annoying paying money every month. I had about 35-40k in debt that I paid off.

That’s insane. 40K for High School Adult education? My Bachelors education was cheaper.

Ah. Yeah I doubled my student debt by defaulting while psychotic. I wasn’t sane enough to deal with the paperwork until after 2022

I could’ve done that but I want to keep my options open for future studies. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to study at university level in the near future.

Yes, if you are permanently disabled, you may be eligible for a “Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge” which allows you to have your federal student loans forgiven and not have to repay them; this applies if your disability significantly limits your ability to work now and in the future.
Key points about TPD Discharge:
Eligibility:
To qualify, you must be considered “totally and permanently disabled” based on medical documentation, often verified by Social Security Administration (SSA) records.
Automatic Discharge:
In some cases, if the SSA identifies you as eligible, you may automatically receive a TPD discharge without needing to apply separately.
Application Process:
If not automatically discharged, you will need to submit an application with supporting medical evidence to your loan servicer.
Private Loans:
This option typically only applies to federal student loans, not private loans.
