New years resolution is to slow down my physical decline

Being a couch potato :potato: is taking it’s toll. Abilify has made my muscles a bit stiff though so excerising is difficult.

I’ll have to figure out something though.

What is your routine? Can you switch it up from weights to cardio? Or vice versa?

Lol. I don’t have a routine. Complete couch potato. That’s the problem. I’ll figure something out.

Do you walk much? If you take up voluntary work eg. You might find yourself naturally motivated to take more steps due to your motivation to accomplish

I don’t even walk. The complete lack of exercise is definitely taking a toll.

It all starts with one press up…

And now for some good news:

That’s some encouraging research. Thanks!

Why wait till new year?

Get up right now, then lie down and do a press up! Then tomorrow 2, then the next 3.

No time like the present!

Well! did you do it? how did it go?

Buy a pair of 5kg dumb bells and do some bicep curls if you can’t do a press up yet!

No I didn’t do it yet :joy:

But press ups do seem like a good idea.

I suggest you start tracking your steps @everhopeful.
You can easily purchase a step tracker or use your phone.

My default steps are 5000
Sometimes I’ll go over that mark and sometimes I’ll go under.

The whole idea behind it is to keep moving.

You can start off slow.

I didn’t think of that. Good tip.

Start slow, do a push up, just one and then try a sit up, again. Just do one and then see what it does for you. If you don’t like it, ask yourself why. Be persistent

Follow a stretching video before you workout. Amazon Prime has free stretching videos if you have that. If not, it’d be worth it to buy a beginner’s stretch video to do every day. The one I do is only 15 minutes long and it helps a lot

This is excellent. Please PM me if I can support you in this, I’ve been doing the same for about six months now and am seeing improvements in my health. I’m never going to be an athlete, but I can touch my toes now and pick stuff up off the floor without feeling like I’m going to pass out these days. I’m mainly walking, doing yoga and tai chi a few times per week, and using resistance bands.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

I like @labratmat 's idea on pushups. I’ll start with that I think as I’ve got to start somewhere!

If your muscles are too stiff to work out you need to stretch. You can stretch before you work out too. It doesn’t have to be after.

the pushups are a good idea and going for walks helps. I go for a walk sometimes and it helps. Also the outside air is nice and feels good.

I don’t have the energy to exercise so I do fasting instead. Waaay easier than going to the gym and fasting probably has even more health benefits anyway.
