Dad would call everybody gay, mother would call everybody mentally ill. It was all just to get the focus off themselves. Not everybody is inadequate.

Its called deflecting. I have a few close family members, because of their inflated egos that do this. Please know its their problem, NOT yours.

I notice that the name calling comes with a lot of unfocused hostility. They want to lash out, but can’t figure the target.

I know my mom is glad that I’m mentally ill as this takes the heat off her.
Gay used to mean “happy”.
Mentally ill means “crazy”, funny thing is, now “crazy” is “cool” (just look at all the TV shows depicting it)
