Last night I was downstairs with my husband talking to him and we heard a very loud thud.
Both of us thought it was my mother in law falling,
So we ran upstairs to find her confused and asking us what the loud noise was.
Nothing has fallen, everything is in place, but it was a very loud noise.
Like would have woken you up if you were asleep.
Now she’s back on the “this house is haunted” kick and it freaks me out.
I already have delusions and I don’t need to think the house is haunted too.
Just right now, before I wrote this, there was another bang in the house I cant find the source of.
I don’t know what to do.
She’s not healthy, mentally, either.
So this just sucks.
I hope there are no more noises.
(it wasn’t like a snap or creak from the changes in temperature, it was a more aggressive pounding noise)

OMG that’s so unsettling. She must be doing something to make that sound and not knowing it.

It could be something like a possum or squirrel making the pounding noise if there’s a lot of wildlife in your area.
Just don’t go calling TAPS lol.
I doubt it’s a haunting, friend.
Be well.

Sometimes when my house settles it’s a really really loud sound. Could it have been that?

My house does that all the time.
Those loud settling noises.
This was different, which made it so weird.
It sounded like someone falling on the hardwood.

Maybe it was a pipe. Hot water pipes will thud.

I hope you’re MIL is not falling and not telling you about it.

If she fell, we’d know.
She’s kind of a drama queen,
No way she’d pass up the opportunity for more attention.
Although it’s possible she dropped something, like someone else suggested.

I tripped over the stuff in your attic. Kidding. I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious like a fall. Maybe creatures in your attic?

Water hammer can make that noise. It happens when an air bubble gets trapped in the pipe, and then more water comes in behind it. The new water slams into the pipe from behind the air, creating a loud bang that would wake you up.

Might be worth calling an exterminator though, in case you have a raccoon or squirrels in the wall.

Our roof in the old apartment would make a loud banging sound…it was contracting and expanding with the heat and cool evenings.
Could just be that.
