My favorite song for 11/4/2015 is
Franklins Tower by The Grateful Dead One from the vault (LIVE) . Here’s my review:
It starts off with a jazzy beat, typical to a Grateful Dead song, but this one is particularly mesmerizing to me. The beat then continues on with it’s jazzy feel, but drops off a little bit in intensity, this is when the vocals come in to play in the song. Not long after Garcia sings his verse, he belts out the chorus “Roll away, the dew”, which is great imagery to nature and very sudden, although not related to the rest of the lyrics, it adds to the abstract model that the Grateful Dead was trying to convey. With a sort of terse rap verse style, albeit singing, with 5 identical hooks, and the constant jazzy melodic ensembles of instruments scattered throughout the song to add a nice feel to it all, this is kind of the song you just want to zone out to on a rainy day. Roll away, the dew, seems more appropriate now that I think of how I would love listening to this song on a rainy day. It’s perfect for a summer rain out on your front porch lighting up a cigarette or indulging in whatever your poison may be, watching the rain showers come down. This is certainly a classic with compelling lyrics. The Grateful Dead certainly have a taste for the esoteric, different from the legendary Led Zeppelin’s typical love songs, or Pink Floyd’s more tangible subjects (Not to take a shot at either of these bands. More so am I complimenting the Dead’s true genius of the unknown and abstract). The crowd of the live version adds a nice feel to it, certainly not messing with the song, you will still like to play this song in your car. The video is not needed either. The Grateful Dead delivered again in Franklin’s Tower. I would take the staircase up Franklin’s tower to hear this sweet tune. And to top it off, the electric guitar riffs at the end add a perfect transition on to your next tune that you’re going to adore too! I guarantee it if you continue with the Dead!

room for improvement @rhubot but it’s ok. Practice makes perfect
