He was refered today. But unfortunatly we could be waiting a long time.
Oh I am so sorry you folks have to wait so long. The system in the uk can be ridiculous
I didn’t realize you could test so young.
How do they test and what difference does it make if you get the diagnosis at this age?
Are there like, early intervention type things?
I don’t know or understand.
We have the opposite in Belgium. Too many psychologists.
We used to say in Uni ‘you can pave the road with psychologists’ (not sure if this translates well/ like cobblestones)
It took me nearly 20 years , and moving to a new area to be near my daughter, to be referred for assessment. Once referred it took 7 months. to get the diagnosis.
Im sorry you have to wait.
Yeah I’ve been waiting two years cos my referral was never sent. now its been sent so I’m waiting some more.
I think they can test from 2 onwards. But by the time we have been tested he could be 3 or 4. There are 2 different pathways. One for toddlers before school and another pathway once they are in school.
As for help im not sure yet what would be available as if he does have it, it wouly only be mild. But it would help us understand some of hus behaviours.
Here we have Early Intervention. My daughter was around 3 by the time services started. It took a while to get assessed and in the system.
Thank you for explaining.
I didn’t understand the benefit of knowing so young,
But I suppose knowledge is power with these sorts of things.
Probably gives them a better start.
I think the earlier the better yes as it would help them more. Qwertle is very difficult with textures and smells of food. He sometimes flaps his hands when excited or tenses them up and shakes.
I think its all sensory. He just started putting hia fingers down his throat (he hasnt learned that from us belive me) and i think its cause of the sensation of it.
He also has quite alot of anxieties. Like water. Hates haircuts and again i think this js because.of the sensation of it.
Hopefully if he’s autistic, he gets help dealing with it as soon as possible. In the US, there’s lots of help available and testing young is totally worth it. I hope you don’t have to wait too long
Have you heard of sensory integration disorder? That’s a big part of some autism diagnoses.
Knowledge, targeted speech therapy, behavioral management, sensory diets, social skill building, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and even more.
It is great you got on the list now. The sooner services start for kids who need them, the easier their lives will be once they are in school.
Yes ive heard.of it. He also doesnt like tags on his clothing.
Everything you’ve said in the comments here sounds like baby human……. Maybe it’s because she’s only 17 months that she does these things… but idk.
Wishing you luck with this whole thing
I have a suggestion. A lot of people self-diagnose and a lot of questionnaires are self-report. If he has a neuropsych exam, there are certain tests that autistic people excel at and certain tests that they do really bad at. I got autism-2 (they consider me to have the intellect of a house plant", told I had ‘poor problem skills’.
I was promptly told to start group therapy and they started trying out meds on me.
