This is also who I am and come from. Apache Native
My half sisters are Blackfoot tribe. Their dad was adopted as a baby, his adopted sister is of different tribe. But because they were adopted by white parents they were denied tribal benefits.
My sisters can’t claim either, but they don’t talk to their dad or anyone in his family cause he ditched them after birth.
@Cici2 It’s really cool that you’re honoring your cultural identity. I enjoyed the video.
Have you attended any powwows? I’m not Native American but I’ve attended the annual Stanford powwow a couple of times. There is something about the drum circles, with the singing and drum beat, that is incredible and beautiful.
we had a native american who plays the pan pipes and sells cd’s and stuff, he is really cool, wears all the traditional dress including feathers
No I haven’t attended any, well technically no. But Mexico has Native dances that they show honoring their ancestors. So there’s that. The thing with Mexico is it has tried to hide it’s native roots and some ppl are ashamed or some, like me, aren’t. So I tell ppl of my mixes because they always want to know what I am. I do honor my NA side, but unfortunately I cannot join an Apache tribe or any NA tribe for that matter. I have too much of a small percentage of NA blood in me and we’ve been “European” far longer than we have been Natives. But yea I only admire and encourage that side of myself. It’s sad that people who want to identify with their past are turned away.
My father’s family is Chocktaw via his paternal grandparents, but he was adopted, too, so proving it is hard. All you have to do to become a member of the Chocktaw Nation is prove your ancestry. I’m sure I could if I tried, but I don’t have it in me to do that much lineage research.
Really? Wow! That’s cool I did the whole research, it was draining. Then I did the dna. My DNA test says 17% Native and the other percentages are distributed within Europe. Switzerland, Italian Alps, France, (Jewish) German. Which was consistent with the ancestry paper trail.
