They did an echocardiogram on me today, and there were some abnormalities in the left parts of my heart. The doctor who ordered the test is going to be out until next week.
My case manager is going to try to get my psychiatrist to review the results tomorrow and see what he thinks. Do you think this is a good idea?
Your psychiatrist is not a heart specialist. He has no business reading and interpreting echoes. He’s not going to understand the echo results, especially any nuances, to the same extent that a cardiologist would. As long as they say it’s not an emergency, I’d wait until your cardiologist comes back.
Thanks @LilyoftheValley@Pandy. The results I’m talking about are the findings of a cardiologist that were sent to my pulmonologist who requested the test. The pulmonologist said if there are heart problems he would refer me to a cardiologist.
Well, my sister is getting mad at me, so I guess I’m going to have to vent here.
My psychiatrist told me this morning if I had heart problems he would need to talk to me. I checked with Dr Google, and it said Abilify may not be appropriate for people with cardiovascular problems. Maybe this is why he wants to talk?
I’m happy on Abilify and really don’t want to go through the hell of switching AP’s again.
Gee, I stopped texting my sister and started writing here. Then she calls me and goes on with it. She acts like she knows more about psychiatrists and psych meds than I do.
From my own experience I had to stop taking Zyprexa because of my psychiatrist’s doing, not mine. He said when you’re diabetic, taking Zyprexa is like eating chocolate cake. You don’t want to do it.
I just really don’t want to switch AP’s again. Period.
I think if it was a major problem and they were really concerned about it they would get another cardiologist to look at it. It wouldn’t hurt to have your psychiatrist look at it, but that is not his specialty.
Back in 2004, about a month after they put me on Olanzapine at the mental health centre they did a electrocardiogram to look for any heart problems caused by the medication, fortunately the psychiatrist there told me everything was fine. I’ve never had a follow up test so I have no idea how my heart is doing now. My fathers side of the family is full of heart attacks so it’s always a concern in the back of my mind.
