My ibs is out of control

Im sick to my stomach every day

I was told that mine is IBS also. Are you on anything? They put me on Bentyl, but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Hurting and being sick sucks, plain and simple.

Ive only tried fiber and probiotics but it doesnt help

I’ve got probiotics. I need to get fiber. Bentyl controls contractions of the stomach, though I can’t tell a difference at this point. If it’s nausea/vomiting, something like Zofran/ondansetron is a great “don’t get sick” pill. I hope they give you something.

They wanted me to get a colonoscopy and so i didnt go back to the doctor but i think at this point i need to go back i have diahrea and stomach cramps as symptoms

I got a colonoscopy and endoscopy done, and I just got an abdominal CT with contrast and barium drink. The colonoscopy part was nothing like I thought it’d be, so I would admittedly do it again. I skipped out on a doctor when I was younger, though. They asked me for a fecal sample. Uhhh… no? I never went back. Now things are too extreme, though, but I was still glad they didn’t ask for a darned sample. The only thing I still need done is bloodwork.

If you make your own drinks for the colonoscopy, my advice is to use something that you don’t like as a regular drink. I drink water all the time and used water for the mixture. It tasted slightly off, but I was worried that I’d never want water again because it was so much to drink it was a bit overwhelming. I am still drinking water, but when I get another colonoscopy done, I’ll use Gatorade or something like that. The other advice I have is that you should get a perineal cleansing bottle or something similar if you don’t have a bidet. I know about them from pregnancy, and it made life easier back then. I think it’s useful for IBS/IBD overall (saves you a sore butt, for sure!), and second, it’ll save you a lot of toilet paper. It’s cheap, too. All around a good idea to have on hand if you don’t or can’t get a bidet.

Did they put you on any diet for it? Since I changed my diet, my decades long IBS was gone. It only returns when I cheat.

OK. I’d really look into that first. I had stomach aches from childhood in stressful periods. And after antibiotics a decade ago, I always had stomach problems, sometimes very badly. Quitting dairy solved my IBS. If I eat even more clean (elimination diet) it gets even better. If I eat dairy now, I immediately have GI problems and emotional problems. Even if I didn’t know there was milk in it, f.e. when there is a bit added to candy.

Psychosis often goes together with dairy and/or (non-celiac) gluten issues. Doctors also prescribe a low FODMAP diet here for IBS.

I have IBS and I was sent to a GI. This GI didn’t really do anything other than tell me that it is either caused by a food that I am intolerant of or caused by anxiety. I’m not sure he was a great doc. Well I have severe anxiety but I also did the FODMOP diet thing to see if anything is aggravating it. For me it was dairy. I thought I was just lactose intolerant but even lactose free milk products cause thing to flare up. I can tolerate small amounts of butter and can tolerate ghee in any quantity. It sucks to have to limit my diet but that doc was right about me. I hope you figure out how to get it under control as it isn’t a fun thing to deal with.

Woops wrong thread

I m not following any kind of diet but like i got sick off of a banana and for some reason greasy hamburgers dont upset my stomach

You might be sensitive or allergic to specific foods, like bananas. You want to find what’s triggering the IBS. I would go to an allergy doctor and see if you can find the foods you are allergic or sensitive to. Cause those can trigger the IBS terribly. I hope you find relief.

Thanks @sweetpotatofries

You might wanna try eliminating foods or looking into med side effects. I had severe stomach issues as a kid (i was on antipsychotics then too). They were so bad i was put on a feeding tube that bipassed my stomach into small intestine. It was diagnosed as gastroparesis. My stomach would hurt so bad i wished i could cut out my intestines. Then after years of this i got so fed up with it i started researching food intolerances and decided to quit gluten. I quit gluten for 7 years. All my stomach problems went away completely. Idk why or how it worked but after 7 years i went back to gluten and can now eat anything without ever having a stomach problem. I cant explain why that is but the improvement after quitting gluten was fast.
