Quick question- I asked to add welbutrin to my cocktail bc I think I need more dopamine with the ap I’m on. She started me at 150 mg when I used to be on only 50 mg of Zoloft. The starting dose for welbutrin (xl) is like 75, then 100 mg. What do u guys think??
Every doc is different. Some are less cautious than others with starting doses. Personally I think it is always better to start at the smallest possible dose because if the person is suddenly barraged by intense side effects they may get scared off the med, when if they had been slowly adjusted up they may have not gotten those effects, or had them milder and been able to adjust. Also that allows you to better judge what each person’s best therapeutic dose is. For example one person may be able to be treated perfectly well at 100 mg, but another person needs 250 mg. If you start the first person at 250 mg, you have them on way more med than they actually need, & are potentially causing them to experience side effects they wouldn’t otherwise at a lower dose.
HOWEVER in crisis situations, it is often necessary to start with a high dose. Then ideally getting to a lower dose is experimented with over time. Have you been in crisis lately?
Anyways, to give a short answer to your question, yes it’s normal. It’s just not ideal.
Yea no crisis here and In the past with other docs they always started at the low dose so it’s weird idk. I’ll find out tomorrow tho. Thanks for the detail tho I appreciate ur input a lot!
That’s the dose my doctor started me at
