My Dad gave us German names out of hatred

He was all mentally ill hatred of self and family when I was born. The war really turned him against himself. I feared what people would do to me because I was German in the US.

I’m making excuses for him. He was spoiled brat hatred.

I’m so sorry for you @PinCushion .

My father was very abusive too. My father was full blood Mexican and one of his sons was born in Frankfurt, Germany so, my father gave him the name, Moshe, which is a Jewish name, just so he could make fun of him by saying he was a Mexican, born in Germany with a Jewish name.

I’m always surprised that such immature people can become parents.

She didn’t suffer abuse during WW2?

Her mother was from Germany her father from Germany Prussia. She was born in 1918 before the nazis. She never mentioned anything. She was great super nice everyone liked her she moved to San Francisco at age 20!

I don’t think people bullied her maybe I’m wrong

Well it just goes to show you that some people overcome problems and others don’t even though it’s the same problem.

One of my sides of the family comes from the south side of Chicago, too.

Yea my grandmother always liked Chicago better than San Francisco. She loved baseball Cubs and white sox. I went to Chicago with her we saw the white Sox. Chicago I liked and I was impressed with downtown being so clean compared to San Francisco. The people were nice too.

She might have hid that she was German . Her last name sounds polish though. There’s rumors in my family that her father was polish but her mother was definately German and born there.

I don’t think you should be ashamed to be German if you are ashamed. I mean you didn’t do anything. Neither did my grandmother or I. It’s the same with being a white American. My great grandparents were from Ireland and Germany and Canada :canada: they didn’t mistreat anyone!

As I mentioned before, my Dad blamed being German when he was actually just spoiled.

I went to high school with someone that was like Jim Jones grandson or great grandson. Jim Jones the cult leader I mean. He was a great college basketball star! People shouldn’t feel bad for things they didnt do! He didn’t kill anyone and he said he was using basketball as a way to bring something positive to his family name!
