My dad always said, "When in doubt, punt"

Thirty years later, I’m still trying to figure out what he meant.

I would think he meant to kick the cans you come across sitting face up like normal in parking lots.

I kick them hard.

Well maybe you’re right.
When he was a kid during the Depression, his favorite game was “kick the can”.

to me, that means “don’t get hung up on anything”.?

It sounds like “when in doubt move a pawn”. That’s said in playing chess.

I’m a pawn in my apartment complex. Two weeks to go.

Maybe it’s a football thing? Like if you don’t know what to do with the ball or what play to make or whatever punt the ball. Maybe you can punt a can? I don’t know.

My knowledge of football is two steps short of shaky at best.
