My brother says exercise instead of self harm

I spoke to my brother on the phone today. I opened up to him about my self harm struggles because my injuries were getting serious.

He was trying to be supportive and told me maybe I could try intense exercise whenever I get the self harm urges.

I’m going to do my best to make this work. I have a couple of free weights at home and I’m gonna try maybe jumping jacks or something. I wish I had enough space to jump rope in my apartment but it’s too small.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Exercise is good for stress relief and making you feel better over the long term. I have no idea if it will get rid of self harm urges or not. Worth a shot, though. It couldnt hurt.

This is too sensitive to answer.
I’d defo replace it with something else, and commit to never doing it again and say that’s my last scars, then move on. Get into exercise, it’s always been good for mental health. Good luck.

I am not self harming but I can say swimming really does help my mind and mood

Go three mornings a week and swim about 500m

I think exercise is good but is avoid doing anything extreme. I think finding balance is what is needed. Exercise is good please just don’t overdo it
