Per my request, putting together a couple of end tables and a bookcase that I bought recently.
Should I pay him? And if so, how much? Input please.

If you can afford to pay him, it would be nice to offer to.
An in-law? Call the police department and ask them to send the SWAT team.
I think it would be a nice gesture, if you can afford it.
Maybe you can get him a small gift or bake him some cookies or cake.
You know small gestures of your thanks.
I think fixing him a meal would be nice.
I gave him a check for $40. Small gesture. I would have had to pay a professional $160 -240.
Offer to pay him, but if he is a gentleman he won’t accept it.
@crimby , Well, he apparently isn’t a gentleman because he took it laughing no less. What can you expect from an in law after all?
It sounds like he is bad news. Don’t invite him over anymore if you can avoid it.
I tolerate him because he never turns me down for favors and he would do things for free except I keep offering him money out of pure gratitude. Because I know I would have to pay a professional way, way more.
With my in-laws, it’s always a toss-up of a full frontal assault with the broadsword, or a sneak attack from behind and a dagger to the throat. But I abstain, bringing an edge to them after use is work!
Wow, I’m so sorry. I tolerate my inlaws. I don’t really like them but they are not that bad.
Mine are that bad, and they get worse, somehow. I’d rather having itching, festering, pustules of syphilis in both eyes than deal with these people any longer. If my wife were to be struck by lightning tomorrow, the first question I’d ask the next potential mate would be, “Do you have any family?” If yes, check please!
@anon40540444 , that wouldn’t necessarily help. My ex husband’s whole family was dead. Really! But it was my husband himself that was the problem.
He was a thief, scam artist, pimp, rapist, wife beater, philanderer, felon and gigolo. Maybe if he had had a family, he wouldn’t have turned out to be such a monster.
