Most homeless people do suffer from Substance Use Disorder or Mental Illness. People suffering from drug abuse deserve just as much help as those with mental illness.
I agree they need help. Its very sad. I always try help when i get the chance
I talk to myself a lot. Partly because I am alone.
They need a home.
I don’t understand what makes them not mentally ill?
Well, I was in a group home, not for MI but for people from “circumstances”, and that ended, and there was no one to take me in, so, homeless. A lot of the people were pretty cool, but there was a lot of substance abuse, a good amount of dual diagnosis, less observably MI folks, prob because I’m told they stay away from the general population. Obviously these are merely from my own observations, not a study or anything. There were a certain amount of people who would rather be outside than give up their drugs, which I would think is some type of dual diagnosis situation.
I was homeless for a time but I don’t think I was normal. So far I really havn’t had many substance use problems.
When I said “substance abuse etc”, I was referring to what “they” say. To my mind, people smoking cannabis don’t count as “substance abusers” but “they” don’t agree
Its normally hard drugs.
Druggies tend to steal more for the next hit so people dont want them around.
And of course drug induced psychosis is just as severe so i dont know what the op is talking about. He might have some delusions of grandeur about MI.
Anyways its all very sad.
That’s kinda what I’m getting at, I wasn’t a regular user of anything except for cigarettes when I ended up homeless, I just couldn’t get it together enough to work and manage my life.
There are working people who are also homeless. Lot’s of people have so much fear of homeless people or think they are lazy. People need to stop making judgements and stigmatizing homeless peoples and why they are homeless and help figure out how to house them and get them mental health help.
It’s so sad people in their high rise condos have to see a homeless encampment and feel fear and disdain for these people right out their window. Here in California, capital of homelessness, that’s what they do, constantly complain about it. Sorry if it lowers your property value. it is a social and difficult problem city state governments are trying to solve. No one wants to be homeless.
A case in Boise, Idaho tried to ban homeless people from sleeping on the street. The court ruled the law was “cruel and unusual punishment.”
