Mental health can be an issue for others, too

From my observations, many people suffer from long-term mental illness, like depression or anxiety, if they are struggling with a physical illness.

It’s not just us. You have a greater community there, too.

When I got diagnosed with a degenerative disease, I was relieved but I was like, “How on earth am I going to get through this?” and after a while despair sets in. It’s repeated in others. In my neuromuscular community, I have seen posts regarding depression, suicide, breakdowns, etc. When you are struck with a diagnosis like this, you often lose hope as your body gives up on you. For me, I was losing hope from time to time- in just short 5 months after my dx.

If you ever feel alone, please don’t be.

You have thousands and thousands of people who can resonate with you.

So don’t give up.

Do you struggle with a physical illness? If so, how does it impact your mental illness/sz?

I agree the depression about physical conditions is often not recognized. Very little is said or written about it.

I know- mental health can be ruined for those who are physically ill.
My point is, mental health is not just a problem for the mentally ill. So if people (I’m talking about completely able-bodied people here) actually look around and see how many people are suffering from mental health issues, I’m sure they will change their minds.
