Meditation helps with Anxiety and Depression

Some 30 minutes of meditation daily may improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, a new Johns Hopkins analysis of previously published research suggests.

“A lot of people use meditation, but it’s not a practice considered part of mainstream medical therapy for anything,” says Madhav Goyal, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and leader of a study published online Jan. 6 in JAMA Internal Medicine. “But in our study, meditation appeared to provide as much relief from some anxiety and depression symptoms as what other studies have found from antidepressants.” These patients did not typically have full-blown anxiety or depression.

32 years with an issue, tactile hallucinations,
plus lots of other stuff i was less concerned with,
always kinda heard that meditation was a suggestion;
kinda knew what it was,
howard stern practices TM, my ex wife in new york paid 400 bucks for a syllable,
like “om”, and i had only lightly investigated.
only a year or so ago, pdoc mentioned meditation
and i had my standard reply
yeah, that fixes it, but what am i supposed to do for the other 23 and three quarter hours a day
and they always dropped it at that.
then this past year, i learned for real.
think i spent a day or two watching youtube videos on meditation
and then yoga, i practice what i call antenna yoga,
the body and surrounding objects you choose as part of the antenna to make
a pentamery of water/;earth/wood/metal/fire,
and the antenna gathers the pneuma of the universe
and broadcasts intention to heaven,
listens to the plangent waves of the universe,
the sun and the moon going by,
so now my whole day outside, standing on the train waiting for the bus,
it’s all antenna yoga, undercover, i look like a lazy guy just standing there,
relaxed, but i’m hooked up with a tree and a polke or a fence and some water in a stream or in a glass and the sun or the stars for fire, and the pyramid at the center of my chest, pulling in the cosmic energy,

and that totally changed everything, as far as the tactile hallucinations,
didn’t make them stop, i still itch if i eat,
but it made me stop worrying or caring,
made me separate from the problem.
