Medications & Gut Motility

I take a really low dose of Seroquel quetiapine now but continue to have problems with digestion, especially in the lower GI. I’ve been aware of “gut motility” being slowed by anti-Ps, regardless them being “older” and “typical” or “newer” and “atypical.” All anti-P’s (and all anti-D’s, as well) are anti-cholinergic. Sigh.

But the help I get from S.q. to shut down some of the vocal chattering, especially at night, allowing me to get to sleep, as well as reducing hypomanic impulsivity and reactive anger, makes it worth it. (As I have relearned quickly every time I quit taking S. q.)

I have to drink a lot more water / clear liquids (and deal with the upshots, including through the night), as well as stay off coffee, black tea, coca cola and other diuretic beverages (I don’t drink alcohol)… and that helps, but it’s far from a complete solution. I also cannot eat thick, crusty breads or whole grains.

Anyone here have similar difficulties and come up with a viable solution?

I make sure that I drink plenty of water - I also try to take in enough roughage (fiber)
I also try to take my meds with some food.

I wish that I could be of more help - I also try to keep active everyday, walking for at least 30 minutes or more

Likewise getting fiber, exercising, walking, etc. The doc said it’s just “age.” Thanks, doc.
