So apparently health insurance will kick in for me in November. Been trying to find some good insurance to last between now and then. ■■■■ is expensive if you want good coverage. No deductible, low copay and co insurance.
Anyway my main question is whether Medicare costs are deducted from my monthly ssdi or if it is more of a complimentary thing.
I need to get back in at the social security office as I have quite a few questions, but that is a process in and of itself. With my symptoms it’s really hard to motivate myself to get that all set up.
Do you have Medicade? If you do vision is free. Dental insurance you have to sign up for through the Medicare site and it’s extra. The 104.90 pays for the Part B and D. A is free. Just went trough this with hubby…eek what a nightmare.
I don’t know what part c is. All I know is when you sign up for Part A; Sign up for Part B or if you choose to get Part B at a later date; it will cost you a lot more. Also, I do believe you don’t have to have Medicare deducted from your SSDI deposit; but, it is better to do it that way. You don’t have to worry about paying it. Part D is separate. I don’t have it deducted from my SSDI deposit; but, I think you can. The thing about Part D is you must choose each year during an open season which plan you want. In my state; they have a senior citizen help counselors who can help you for free in each county. They help regardless of age. Check with your state. Part D premiums are like any other payment. You can have it deducted from your bank account if you wish. Personally, I think it is very rotten that people who are disabled or elderly and living on social security have to pay these premiums. In addition to this; you have a deductible and co-pays; yet, we live on a “fixed” income. IT SUCKS!!! Your first bills at the beginning of the year can be costly if your deductible has not kicked in. This is especially true for us; since, SSDI will not make you “rich.” Luckily, my mother pays most of my medical and prescription bills. I guess if you have questions, you can call the Social Security office; but, be prepared to wait a long time on the telephone! Good Luck!!!
This is good info. My Medicare kicks in in July. Which is kind of weird because I thought you had to have SSDI for 2 years, I’ll only have had it for 1.5. Very confusing stuff.
